Explore the Evolutionary Origins of Human Behaviors

At the Institute for the Evolutionary Origins of Human Behavior (EHUB), Kyoto University, we pursue multidisciplinary research and education to uncover the biological and evolutionary foundations of what makes us human. Using a broad range of experimental approaches with non-human primates, we study the highly developed brain, the acquisition of vocal language, fine motor skills, bipedal locomotion, social behavior, and the remarkable human capacity to adapt to diverse environments.

Addressing Contemporary societal challenges

EHUB is also advancing experimental medical science as a new research pillar, recognizing the vital role of primate research in tackling today's societal challenges. Our work addresses issues related to individual development and aging, psychiatric and neurological disorders, and infectious diseases, with the goal of contributing to human health and well-being.

Cooperative Research Program

We have launched the Cooperative Research Program for developing the multi-disciplinary researches through experimental research on non-human primates.

Establishment of international hub for the evolutionary research of brain and Intelligence -evolution of decision making-

In collaboration with the German Primate Center and Georgia State University, we conduct comparative behavioral research on humans and non-human primates, as well as systems neuroscience research on non-human primates.

“Japanese Macaques”

We engage in the rearing, breeding, and provision of Japanese macaques necessary for medical and life science research that contributes to the improvement of human welfare.
